Sidewalk - Entrance - Grand Hotel

The monkey had no luck it seems
Up and down the pearly scale
It's true - his talents - marvelous
Though the music seemed quite stale

He tried so hard, his very best
Yet crowds would drift away
Until he met an elfish imp and
She asked if she could play

She had no instrument you see
But herself from head to toe
Which she luringly un-covered
While writhing to and fro

She motioned him - to start to strum
Which he did as if possessed
He spilled his heart upon those strings
The virtuoso played obsessed

She writhed and wriggled endlessly
Her self now all exposed
She used the magic in her step
Eyes captured as she posed

Off the cloth would come by strokes
And up would go their take
The monkey playing furiously
More dollars were at stake

The crowd had built - some were appalled
But others found the mood
This was of course unusual
A monkey and a nude

But the music was compelling
And the dance a dreamy lure
Was magic - caught the crowded scene
A spirit changed for sure

The crowd applauded frantically
Music mixed all through the din
For it was art they felt for sure
Erotic, but a grand new spin

Up stepped the hotel doorman
The demeanor of Captain Bligh
'You can't be nude and strum like that
This monkey's gone awry'

The crowd recoiled and looked at him
Then looked back upon the two
They loved what they were seeing
But what were they to do

The mood fell short - the sanctions flew
A cold wind stirred through souls
The doorman shouted angrily
'Your morals are full of holes'

Twas then that beauty all went sour
The why of it went too
The monkey rose up on his feet
And told the doorman, 'Well, screw you!'

They left in haste - the dancing pair
before the mood could shift
The monkey had learned a lesson
The elf had got the drift

Seems you can't just do what's in your heart
No matter how sweet the goal
If you need the sanctions of the horde
Keep your pants on -- save your soul

And/or you'll need;
an agent and a manager and advertising and a stage and booking
and an attorney and transportation and political support and ...
actually, go to Europe.
