Piggies got a date with destiny
with sausages and boneless hams
when Autumn birds fly.

Jokingly I asked if they'd named the three little
pigs that arrived on Tuesday. 'For one of them I
like Edna Ruth', was the reply.

I'd just traveled back across the North Cascades
after helping erect the new pigsty. Last minute
hurry up was building a new equipment shed and lean-
to pig pen on one end of the building. There were
just hours left before the truck would arrive with
weaners.

Oh, you better not name them, I thought to myself.
Already the person on the phone was talking about
how much she loved to watch them, having spent quite
a bit of time on the first day in the pen with them.

Come October the knacker is a-coming. It will be
mighty hard to condemn close friends. Eeuw!
